Joshua’s chance

When his father passed on in April 1994, Joshua was in class 4. Five of his elder siblings were dependants. Only one brother was working as a receptionist. With their mother being a house wife, prospects of a good education for the young Joshua were dim. Putting a meal on the table was a big struggle for their mother. It is then that a well wisher informed the family about the Machakos child sponsorship program. Joshua got a sponsor in 1996 while in class 6. He now had hope that he would study and stopped worrying about fees and uniform.

He put more effort in his studies and scored 526 out of 700 marks in his final examinations in primary school in 1999 and proceeded to St. Charles Lwanga high school Kitui. He worked hard at school and the program workers counseled, prayed and encouraged him all through He scored a mean grade of B+ in his final examination in high school in 2003. He pursued the Certified public Accountants course in 2004 and was admitted to Kenyatta University in August 2005.

He pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics which he completed in 2009 and attained a second class honors upper division. In 2009 December Joshua got a job at Church Army Africa where he is an executive assistant. He got married in December 2010. In his free time he still encourages the other sponsored children and keeps in touch with the program workers.

The program gives thanks to sponsors who give hope and a future to other children like Joshua since children are our most valuable resource.
